Public Speaking

I Have Seen – A Documentary Travel Photographer’s Journey Through His Camera Lens From a curious artistic child to a teenager who picked up his first camera after surviving a near-death experience and coma, this public speaking follows the extraordinary journey of a documentary travel photographer Rafael Ben Ari shaped by resilience, risk, and relentless curiosity. What began as an attempt to document what he believed might be the final moments of his life slowly transformed into a lifelong pursuit of human stories. Through the lens, he rediscovered the world — and himself. Inspired by the timeless work of Henri Cartier-Bresson, Steve McCurry, and Robert Frank, he chose uncertainty over comfort — traveling alone, immersing himself in remote communities, and turning lived experiences into powerful visual narratives. Through struggle, sacrifice, and defining life decisions, photography evolved from a hobby into a calling. Each journey became more than travel — it became a testament to survival, connection, and meaning. Today, his work goes beyond images. It preserves traditions, amplifies unheard voices, and reveals the soul of places often overlooked. This is not just a story about photography. It is a story about surviving death, embracing purpose, and learning to truly see the world — deeply.

  1. Barbara –“ I’m about to finish the third edition of the „Photographer’s Eye” course by Rafael Ben Ari at the Camden Haven Community College. It started with absolute camera basics, progressing through an overview of photography styles and then a deep dive into each genre. Rafael’s teaching style is relaxed but thorough. He meets each of his students where they are in their photographic journey, gently encouraging and always highlighting the positives of their work. His passion for photography shines through the visual examples and stories on what inspired him to take the photo in the first place. Whether a total beginner or someone who wants to deepen their photographic knowledge you can “widen your depth of field” with Rafael’s expert guidance.”
  2. Peter – “Most camera courses give you the ‘how’, but Rafael goes deeper, giving you the ‘why’, the ‘what’ and the ‘where’. This combined with his experience, and his support has made me a way better photographer than I ever felt possible”
  3. Victor – “The third session of classes of the Photographer’s Eye consolidates the student discoveries of the first two sessions: the camera, and the subject. This session introduces the style, where the student discovers their own interests and abilities. That is, their Eye. Rafael Ben Ari is a revelation as a teacher, guide and mentor in the broad field of photography. Cannot be recommended highly enough.”
