A Grey-headed flying fox, a large bat from eastern Australia, rests upside down in a tree by clinging to branches with its claws, using the tree as a roosting site during the day.
Grey-headed flying foxes mate in their daytime roosts. Males establish and defend territories by scent-marking with shoulder glands. During this time, females choose a male and the pair engages in repeated mating sessions over several days before the most likely conception in April. The physical act involves the male gripping the female’s neck and pinning her wings to mate upside down.
